Survey of Animation Final Project

A Place Like Home

With this animation, I tried to emulate ┬áMichael Dudok De Wit’s animation style, specifically his short movie “Father and Daughter.” I used watercolor backgrounds and used ink on cels to make this animation. I tried to give the characters a slightly more realistic feel to them in their design and movements, as De Wit did in the aforementioned film of his own.
I believe my best work to be at the 00:05 mark, when the children are dismounting from their bicycles. The animation here is smooth and consistent. Another strong part is at 00:16, when the girl is shoved by one of the city-goers and drops her bag. What I am most proud of in this work are the watercolor backgrounds.
