Chair Drawing

CHAIR

Charcoal on Strathmore Coldpress Watercolor Paper, 22″ x 30″

Approaching the chair drawing, I was very intimidated. Sitting with the chair and looking at the shape and shadows really helped my understanding of how to draw the chair. I used atmospheric perspective to give the drawing depth as well as shadow and highlights. On the edges of the cloth where the white stripes meet the edge, I removed the lines, causing the viewer to imply where they are. Even though the chair was a daunting task, paying close attention to the form and applying the techniques I’ve learned in class produced a realistic drawing of the chair.
